Andy spent a sensational training day with us, sharing storytelling. We are a school of primary age children with severe learning difficulties, many of them are non-verbal. Andy showed exceptional empathy with our position, and we all had the most fantastic day! Thank you, Andy

Background

Despite the benefits of this age-old craft, we are losing our ability to tell stories and certainly are not guided in how powerful storytelling can be in day-to-day communication.

We may think we don’t have the time, perhaps we think it is a bit silly or we don’t think we have the imagination to pull it off. Yet storytelling is one of the most powerful forms to educate and communicate.

Human beings have been telling stories ever since we have been able to speak, draw pictures or dance.

We use storytelling to connect with the audience, by sharing narratives of history and future dreams, articulating lessons learnt or complex ideas.

 What to expect

I take great pride in providing workshops that are designed with interaction and participation at its core. So, as daunting as it may seem ahead of attending one of my workshops, we will all learn together by ‘doing’.

I like to break my workshops up like chapters of a book, with a plot defined. A journey so to speak, shaken up with colourful characters and eventful moments, with a few twists of emotions. That may sound exhausting but if anything, it will be an experience to make you think, feel, and ultimately remember.

No matter how long or short a story is, there should always be structure. And my workshops are no different.

I apply 3 rules to the way I work, whether that is delivering a workshop or performing on stage.

Respect yourself.

Respect the audience.

Respect the story.
